SETAPAK, along with its partner, Sikola Mombine in the Palu area, encouraged women to involve in this social change to help extend their hands to the victims. SETAPAK does not only focus on better forest governance programs but also on the recovery of the city of Palu after the earthquake and tsunami disaster’s hit. The posts built in Palu City show that women can, not only protect natural resources, but also help restore the city of Palu.

SETAPAK 2 together with 64 Partners spread across Indonesia showed their support towards environmental fighters in Forestival 2018 activities. This activity presented the presentation of the story from the defendant Basuki Wasis, Environmental Specialist from Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) and Bambang Hero, IPB Forestry Professor as expert witnesses in environmental cases in Indonesia.

Currently Riau is one of the richest province in Indonesia, and its resources are dominated by natural resources, especially oil, natural gas, rubber, oil palm and fiber plantations. But, Deforestation is on the rise and has decreased the area of the forest significantly from 78% in 1982 to only 33% in 2005. On average 160,000 hectares of forest have been cut down every year, leaving 22%, or 2.45 million hectares in 2009. Deforestation with the goal of opening up palm oil plantations and paper production has caused a fog of smoke that is very bothersome to appear in this province for years, and has spread to neighboring countries such as Malaysia and Singapore. In lieu of that, there needs to be efforts to save the forest of Riau.

Jakarta, 11 Oktober 2018, Palu is the capital of Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. The city of Palu is a 5 dimensional town that made up of valleys, oceans, rivers, mountains, and bays. Surrounded by the sea and beaches makes Palu a sought after town by domestic tourist and international tourist, in 2015-2016, the number of local and foreign tourist in Central Sulawesi increased to 2.5 million people per year.

One of the tourist sights that are very interesting is the Talise beach, not only the Talise beach in Palu, Central Sulawesi also has Sombori Island in the district of Morowali. This white sandy beach is also the choice of many local and international tourists to enjoy the beauty. But all of that is no longer beautiful, what remains is rubbles from ruins, victim of disasters, and sorrow that still plagues this town caused by an earthquake and tsunami that hit the city of Palu and Donggala some time ago.

Those natural disasters have moved the hearts of the people to directly go to the site of the disaster and lend help to the victims. SETAPAK with its partner Sikola Mombine in Palu area pushes woman to participate in social change to lend a hand to the victims. SETAPAK not only focuses on forest management programs but also in the recovery of Palu after it has been struck by an earthquake and tsunami. Posts have been set up in the city of Palu to show that woman can, not only protect natural resources, but also restore the city of Palu.

Other than that, there are issues in budget transparency which is still a polemic in the province of Riau where they are hindered with information transparency regarding to budget, and land management problems. With that problem in mind The Asia Foundation through its Save the Forest and Land through Management Repair (SETAPAK) ask the people especially the people of Riau to demand their rights to be involved in the whole budgeting process, right from the planning, discussing, implementation of the budget and the evaluation. With the spirit of the people in pushing for openness to the local Government of the district of Pelalawan, Riau to fix and form an integrated service (PPID Utama) so that service for information can be accessed by the public through 1 gateway under the DISKOMINFO Pelalawan District. The SETAPAK program also invites the people to fight to realize justice and conservation management of the forest in Riau for the continuity of the Riau forest management.
