Improving Indonesia’s Forest and Land Governance: Using a Delphi Approach to Identify Efficacious Interventions

Using a Delphi process, this study surveyed a panel of experts on forest and land governance to identify priority interventions to respond to the major drivers of deforestation and peatlands degradation in Indonesia. The study offers three priority interventions to improve Indonesia’s forest and land governance, these being: increasing the capacity of local communities to manage and monitor forests; gazetting forests to clarify land boundaries and determine which areas should be village, community and state forest zone; and integrating participatory maps into spatial plans to protect local communities and indigenous peoples’ development needs.
