JKMA is a human rights based NGO that supports the rights of Indigenous communities in Aceh. JKMA’s work with SETAPAK falls under the following land and forest governance themes;
Community forests
JKMA’s promotion of sovereignty for Indigenous communities in Aceh directly supports improved forest and land governance in the region. JKMA works to improve regional policies to ensure adat community land rights are recognized and protected. They assist adat communities and institutions in gaining, mapping and managing rightfully owned forest area. Through conducting inventories of adat community land, legal tenure recognition processes are supported.
Policy development
JKMA works on a regional level to improve government policies about forest management to support work at the grass-roots level.
