The SETAPAK program, together with Indonesia Corruption Watch, Indonesian Centre for Environmental Law, Publish What You Pay, Auriga, Indonesian Mediators Network, Forest Watch Indonesia, HUMA, Epistema and Sawit Watch, are hosting a national seminar on the 10 June 2015.
The national seminar, to be held at Hotel Luwansa, Jakarta, will bring together representatives from the government, civil society organisations, the private sector, law enforcement, international organisations and academia to discuss issues related to forest and land governance. Several thematic issues will be discussed, including ways to improve transparency in the extractive and plantation sectors, increase environmental law enforcement, support local/adat resource rights, resolve conflict, and improve governance in licensing in Indonesia following the introduction of Law no. 23 of 2014 about Regional Governance. The seminar aims to identify effective strategies and solutions for strengthening Indonesia’s decentralized governance ensure transparency and accountability in the management of natural resources, and in the protection and distribution of benefits from natural resources to achieve sustainable economic growth.
